If her live comeback was not enough, selling out all 22 dates within fifteen minutes, Kate Bush has become the first female ever to have 8 albums in the Official Albums Chart at the same time. Two are in the top ten with The Whole Story is at number six and Hounds of Love at number nine.
This isn't the first record the Cloudbusting singer has claimed. Back in 1978, she became the first female in history to hit the number one spot with a self-written song, Wuthering Heights. The song stayed at number 1 for four weeks.
Music Week reported that Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company chief executive, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Kate Bush. Her new live shows have created a huge stir, but for them to help push her catalogue to make such a significant sales impact is further evidence of the love that the British public have for her music, from generation to generation.”
Her other albums to chart are: 50 Words For Snow (No. 20) with The Kick Inside (24) The Sensual Word (26) The Dreaming (37) Never For Ever (38) and Lionheart (40). Elvis Presley holds the overall record for most simultaneous albums in the top 40, with 12 entries following his death in 1977. The Beatles racked up 11 during their 2009 back catalogue reissues. Kate smashed the previous record for a female - which was Madonna holding three albums and a soundtrack back in 1987.
