FILM: POUT 4th Annual Film Festival
POUT started life as an LGBT film festival from independent film distributor Peccadillo Pictures, as a response to audience demands to see more queer-oriented cinema on the big screen.
Four years later and still going strong, POUT are hosting their film festival at the Apollo Piccadilly Cinema from 21st - 23rd June, followed by a tour at key cinema venues across the UK. Many of the LGBT and queer-friendly films featured will be UK premieres, and there will be both cast and crew from all of the films present for a Q&A after each screening.
When the BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival Tour was cut in 2011, Peccadillo stepped in and took a number of films on tour across the UK.
This year amongst the line-up, they have some must-see UK exclusives on show: BUMBLEFUCK USA, the transgender romantic comedy, BASHMENT, ROMEOS, and the Arab-American triptych THREEE VEILS are all UK premieres. Other films include Iranian film CIRCUMSTANCE and London-set feature film STUD LIFE.
Make sure you book some time in to POUT your way through your weekend, we promise it will be worth it.

BUMBLEFUCK, USA dir. Douglas Aaron Johnston
At its heart, Bumblefuck, USA is a love story, one which revels in the small moments of life—fooling around in a lake on a hot afternoon, scrounging for art supplies at the local dump, or a cup of coffee in a polka-dotted mug.

ROMEOS dir. Sabine Bernardi
A tale of star-crossed lovers with a difference, Sabine Bernardi’s richly textured ode to teenage love takes a fresh and unique look at a romantic encounter that transcends boundaries.

BASHMENT dir. Rikki Beadle-Blair
When JJ, an aspiring gay rapper, decides to reveal his sexuality on stage, a series of events is triggered that puts everyone involved under the spotlight, begging the question “Did the music make you do it?”

THREE VEILS dir. Rolla Selbak
Three Veils is the story of three young Muslim women whose lives unexpectedly intersect as they deal with issues of sexuality, tradition, and identity. To the outside world, just typical young college students, but each girl has a story that, behind the veil, is brimming with desire.

CIRCUMSTANCE dir. Maryam Keshavarz
Winner of the Sundance Audience Award, Circumstance sees two vivacious young Iranian girls struggling with their desires and the boundaries placed upon them by the world they were born into.

STUD LIFE dir. Campbell X
What is more important, love between friends or lovers? Unafraid to peek under the vibrant array of London’s queer neighbourhoods, Stud Life is a gender-queer rom-com with a difference.
